Tuscany Trail, the bicycle event to discover the territory: schedule

Everything is ready for the Tuscany Trail. From Castagneto Carducci to Orbetello to discover Tuscany, with a 470-kilometer route to be covered in three days, May 27-29, 2022. This is the ninth edition of Tuscany Trail, a challenge that brings in participants from all over the world with the goal of having fun for several days on their bikes.

What is the Tuscany Trail

The Tuscany Trail is the world’s largest “bikepacking” event held every year in Tuscany. For the uninitiated: “bikepacking” is a style of bike travel where luggage is anchored directly to the frame without the need for luggage racks.

A lighter way of traveling, and where the choice of “what you carry” is reduced to the minimum necessary, thus very different from cycle touring. But the Tuscany Trail is also the first “unsupported bicycle adventure,” a north-south “self-sufficient” route for true 21st century adventurers.

No assistance from the organizers. No personal assistance in tow. “It will just be you and your bike.” A route is loaded on the GPS and off you go each at your own pace, with no time limit. It is an adventure for everyone, beginners and veterans.

The route will start from Marina di Castagneto Carducci beach towards Donoratico, Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri before heading north. Radicofani will be the highest and wildest point of the entire Tuscany Trail 2022 route, the watershed between the Val d’Orcia and the tuff cities. The finish is set in Orbetello at the center of the lagoon. Sixty-six percent of the route will be on dirt roads. You will ride on the roads of some of the most beautiful places in the world.
